Money Drunk Money Sober: seeking support

For this time period, I am working through Julia Cameron and Mark Bryan’s book Money Drunk, Money Sober before I work through the Prosperous Heart. The following blog entries are in response to prompts and experiences from the book. I see this as an extension of my Artist’s Way work. Some of my entries are jarring and highly personal – any program of sobriety and self-improvement demands admitting dysfunction both personally and in family, and it also calls to admit some painful truths. While not everything I work on appears here, a number of realities do. I have a genuine body of work thanks to my work on the Artist’s Way program, and I can’t ignore the changes the continual commitment has brought about. Because of that, I also can’t ignore what going further into the harder aspects of the program – like facing money issues – has the potential to improve.

My iWallet program does the counting for me, and it’s more financial information than I could really share online anyway. I overspend on food, although now I’m on a rather severe and deeply uncomfortable detox diet for my at-times debilitating allergies, so that’s been abruptly curbed. My partner is supportive of this since me getting my stuff straight assists his goals, and also because he wants to see me successful and happy.

The next phases of the book suggest going to observe an Alcoholics Anonymous open meeting to see how support groups work, and then to seek out a Debtor’s Anonymous support group It is worth checking their question list to see how you fit. I do think a Pagan-specific one would be good. At the same time, I’m resistant to the idea of going. The backpedal…”Oh, I don’t need that!” Except maybe I do. Addiction IS on a spectrum, and it can screw up your life on a spectrum. Also, it would be good for me to see how support groups work if for no other reason than that it will make me a better priestess.

Also, on Mark Bryan’s site (co-author of MDMS’s ) he includes his own interactive financial crisis inventory. It has slidey buttons and is therefore more fun.
